3.3.5 Steering system. The steering system shall provide for full
power hydraulic steering of the articulated type, with horizontal
oscillation of the drum provided at the steer pivot point.
* 3.3.6 Electrical system. The electrical power for the roller shall
be supplied by a sufficient number of batteries for the low temperature
operation specified herein. The system shall be designed for 12-volt
negative ground.
3.3.6.1 Batteries. Batteries shall be 6 TN in accordance with
MS35000-3. Batteries shall be furnished charged and dry; electrolyte
is not to be provided.
* 3.3.6.2 Slave receptacle. The electrical circuit shall incorporate
a slave receptacle conforming to MIL-C-62122 for starting the engine from
auxiliary sources. The receptacle shall be located in a position
accessible to a person standing on the ground.
* 3.3.6.3 Lighting system. The lighting system shall include two forward
and two rearward directed sealed beam floodlights. Lamp housings shall
be provided with adjustable mounting brackets and shall be positioned so
the lights do not shine in the operator's eyes when in his normal
operating position. All wiring shall be protected against wearing and
weathering and shall be so secured that no section exceeding 3 feet is
unsupported. Grommets shall be used where wiring passes through
structural steel sections and sheet metal to prevent chafing of the cable.
3.3.7 Brake system. In addition to the dynamic braking, adequate
hydraulic service brakes and an adequate hand or foot operated emergency/
parking brake shall be provided. Brake system performance shall be in
accordance with SAE J1136.
3.3.8 Hydraulic system. Engine driven hydraulic pumps shall supply
the power for all roller hydraulic functions. The hydraulic system
shall be complete with all operating accessories, including pumps,
reservoir, hydraulic cylinders, valves, pressure gages, pressure relief
valves, filters, hoses, piping and fittings. Hydraulic circuits shall be
designed to promote simultaneous operation of all functions without
interference. Main relief valve settings shall be provided to protect
hydraulic components.
3.3.8.1 Hydraulic fluid. The hydraulic fluid used in the system shall
conform to MIL-L-2104. All components and materials shall be compatible
with these oils throughout an oil operating temperature range of -25°F
to +225°F.
