3.20.2 Lighting. All lamps shall operate as specified herein on 24 volts. The two lighting
systems, service and blackout, shall be separate systems except for having common ground
returns. The two front service turn signal lamps shall be symmetrically pedestal mounted on the
top of the horizontal portion of the front fenders. The lamps shall be double faced, amber front
and red rear lenses, having either sealed units or bulbs and lenses in a nonferrous housing. If
furnished, bulbs shall be of the single contact base type, trade no. 1683. Under fender boots,
filled with silicon sealant, shall be furnished to waterproof the lamp. Friction retainment

as practicable, within industry standards 4.5-inch (114.3 m) diameter holes, to permit
replacement of assemblies. These combination lamps shall be either sealed units inserted in
elastomer rings, or bulb and lens mounted in an elastomer housing. If furnished, bulbs shall be
double contact indexing base type, trade no. 1662. Grounding pigtail leads shall be required.
Friction retainment connectors shall be furnished on the pigtail leads for tail, stop, and turn. The

(152.4 mm) diameter holes such that their lens doors are within 1-inch (25.4 mm) tolerance of
the service combination lamp lenses. The blackout combination lamps shall be protected with
guards equal to 6-inch (152.4 mm) diameter, schedule 40 steel pipe over at least the upper half of
the lamp diameter.
3.20.3 Hazard warning operating unit. The hazard warning operating unit shall have a load
capacity to flash all four truck service turn signal lamps, plus a minimum of two additional turn
signal lamps of a trailer equipped with rear lamps having the same current draw as those
furnished on the truck, in accordance with DOT Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. The hazard
warning unit shall include a heavy duty-flasher, a multiple contact switch, and an indicator light.
The 24-volt flasher shall be waterproof, of either the electromechanical type or of the solid state
