3.11 Operator's platform and controls. An operator's platform shall be
provided and shall be located so that the operator will have the optimum view
of all operations. The platform shall be made of expanded metal capable of
supporting two operators. The expanded metal shall provide an antiskid
surface and hole spacing shall allow bituminous materials to fall through.
All controls (except the speed range and screed controls) necessary for
operation shall be accessible and located so that the operator can control all
operations from both the right and left sides of the platform. All controls
shall be identified.
3.12 Hopper. The receiving hopper shall have a capacity of not less than
5 tons and shall receive material directly from commercial type 5-ton dump
trucks. The hopper shall be equipped with adjustable gates to control the
flow of material to the screed. Each hopper gate shall be individually
controlled. The paver frame shall be equipped with the manufacturer's
standard push roller(s) to push the dump truck dual wheels while charging the
hopper.
3.13 Spreader screws. The spreader screws shall be hydraulically powered
and independently controlled to distribute bituminous material evenly the whole
width of the screed or across either half of the screed as an independent
operation.
3.14 Screed. The manufacturer's standard full floating vibratory screed
shall be furhished. The screed shall be lifted and lowered hydraulically.
operator(s) movement on the paver shall not vary the screed height settings or
mat finish. The screed shall incorporate adjustments to control the thickness
of the pavement strip. Sufficient adjustment shall be provided to lay
pavement at any thickness from zero to not less than 5 inches. Controls shall
be provided to vary the negative crown from zero to not less than 2 inches and
the positive crown from zero to not less than 2 inches of the finished mat.
3.15 Screed heating system. The manufacturer's standard liquified
petroleum gas, screed heating system shall be furnished.
3.16 Wash-down system. The manufacturer's standard electric motor driven
wash-down system, with a hose long enough to reach all parts of the paver,
shall be furnished. The wash-down system reservoir capacity shall be not less
than 5 gallons and shall be mounted on the paver.
* 3.17 Engine. The engine furnished for the specified paver classes shall
be the manufacturer's standard commercial or optional engine and shall have
the horsepower, torque and speed characteristics to meet satisfactorily all
the equipment performance requirements specified. The engine shall be
complete with a 12-volt starting and charging system.
3.17.1 Gasoline engine. The class I paver shall be furnished with an air
cooled, internal combustion, four-stroke cycle gasoline engine. The engine
furnished shall provide the required paver performance when operated on
unleaded fuel with a research octane rating of 91.
3.17.2 class II. diesel engine driven. The class II paver shall be
equipped with an air cooled, compression ignited diesel engine.
