provided for controlling the flow of water to each spray header. The complete
system shall be assembled of rust proof materials.
3.16 Brakes. The hydrostatic drive shall provide dynamic braking during
roller operation. A lever operated parking/emergency brake capable of holding
the roller stationary on a 15 percent slope shall be provided.
3.17 Operator's platform and steps. An operator's platform with a
removable operator's seat shall be provided. The seat shall be adjustable to
either side of the operator's platform, and shall be located to permit
operation of all controls from either seat position on the operator's
platform. Dual seats, one on each side of the operator's platform, are
acceptable. The seat shall be covered with a durable, waterproof covering.
Steps and handholds shall be provided for access to the operator's platform.
The operator's platform and steps shall be provided with an antiskid surface.
3.18 Controls. All controls necessary to operate the roller shall be
provided and shall be located within reach of the operator from either seat
position on the operator's platform. All controls, except brakes, shall be
clearly identified for their intended operation and function with
permanently-affixed identification plates made of corrosion-resistant material.
* 3.19 Steering. The roller shall have hydraulic power steering with
steering wheel or lever type control.
3.20 Lighting system. A complete 12- or 24-volt lighting system as
specified (see 6.2), shall be provided. The lighting system shall include at
least the forward and two rearward directed sealed beam lights and two red
lights at each end. Independent controls shall be provided for forward directed
lights, rearward directed lights, front-mounted red lights, and rear-mounted red
lights. Each control shall be clearly identified. Sealed beam floodlights
shall conform to SAE J598 and shall be provided with lamp housings. Sealed beam
lights shall be used to floodlight the work area and to permit safe travel at
night. Panel lamps shall be provided on the instrument panel for night
illumination of all instruments.
3.21 Retractable transport wheels. Hydraulically raised and lowered
transport wheels shall be provided on the roller. The control lever shall be
conveniently located at the operator's control station. Wheels and stub axles
shall be easily removed to give maximum working clearance for the roller. Tire
and wheel size shall conform to the tire and rim association (TRA)
recommendation.
* 3.22 Towing tongue. A towing tongue shall be provided on the roller. The
tongue shall be equipped with hydraulic devices to raise, lower and safely
support roller during towed transport. The tongue shall be furnished with
either a lunnette ring conforming to MS 51336 or a "U" shaped tongue with a
material diameter and eye opening such that the "U" shaped tongue shall
accommodate all hitches/couplers that would accept the MS 51336 lunnette ring.
3.23 Toolbox. Toolbox shall be provided to carry those tools and
accessories required to operate the roller. Toolbox shall be constructed of
sheet steel, shall have a hinged lid which shall open not less than 90 degrees,
